The face of recruitment is ever changing, especially during a recession. Over the past year
in particular, agencies have been striving to gain a competitive advantage in order to
survive which has resulted in some interesting ideas from recruiters.
In order to gain this competitive advantage many agencies have turned to international
recruitment as their saviour. More and more companies are now competing in the
international market from Ireland, resulting in the 'safe' environment where international
agencies thought they were untouchable, now becoming a battle ground to win major contracts
with the MNCs.
One of the most desirable markets is Eastern Europe due to so many MNCs moving their
operations there due to the lower cost of living. Places like the Czech Republic and Poland
are now seeing large MNCs like IBM, HP, Ericsson, and Panasonic, entering their markets and
creating thousands of jobs and making their countries more attractive to other companies.
Most of these MNCs require certain levels of education and qualifications for their jobs,
particularly in the IT and Telecommunication fields. Companies like IBM in Brno would
require specific skill levels with the likes of UNIX, Linux, Storage, Server Management, which they may not be able to find locally, hence the international recruitment market opening up to us here
in Ireland.
So the battle continues!
